An unexecuted design for the palace of Richard Trevor (1707-1771), Bishop of Durham from 1752. Horace Walpole commented about the construction project on 19 October 1760, "St. Durham told my Lord Manchester, who is just come from Auckland, that he had laid out sixteen hundred pounds there, and has now a hundred men at work a day." Written in manuscript in black ink at the center of the sheet are three passages, beginning with 'Education either makes or mars us, and governments as well as private families, are concerned in it’s [sic] consequences, abcde’, and concluding with 'Good books are a guide in youth, and an entertainment for age, they support us under solitude and keep us from being a burden to ourselves'.
