In Italian., Script: Copied by one hand in bold Southern Gothica Textualis Formata (but f and straight s slightly descending below the base-line), with majuscules under strong Humanistic influence., The first letter of each verse heightened with yellow. Red plain initials (3-4 lines) at the head of each Book (no space had been provided for the last one)., and Binding: Eighteenth century. White parchment over cardboard. Spine with red leather title-label with gold-tooled inscription "LE BATTAGL. DI J. PALLAD. CON IL DEMONIO. MS. 1400". Marbled endpapers and red and blue sprinkled edges.
In Greek and Latin., Watermarks: similar to Briquet Chapeau 3387 and Harlfinger Chapeau 12., Script: Written by three scribes: Scribe 1 wrote the Greek words in precise minuscule, using dark ink. Scribe 2 supplied the Latin equivalents for ff. 1r-56r in a delicate humanistic cursive; Scribe 3 supplied them for ff. 57r-323v in a more flamboyant calligraphic style of writing., Intricate but faded headpiece (f. 1r) in red, with intertwining foliage left uncolored, accompanied by a 4-line initial with floral motifs. Scribe 2 (ff. 22r-54v) in fere-humanistic script., Gold initial, 4-line, infilled and surrounded by blue penwork designs, on f. 1r for beginning of prologue; charming border extending down inner margin, in blue and purple penwork, with gold dots, incoporates grotesque with gold tongue. Plain red initials, 3- to 2-line, with purple penwork, for first incipit. Headings and paragraph marks in red throughout. Latin added on ff. 39v-41r in gothic cursive of 15th or 16th century. Marginal notes in Greek by various later hands., Initials very crudely done, in various styles and several shades of red. Rubrics throughout. Some scribblings in the margins, including a cow on f. 25v., Folios 1, 2, 3, 41, and 42 are all torn, so that significant portions of the text are missing., and Binding: Nineteenth century. In Latin., Script: Artt. 1-5 written by a single hand in a small and highly abbreviated Humanistica Cursiva Currens. Art. 6 is added in red ink on unruled pages by another contemporary hand writing Humanistica Cursiva Currens close to Humanistica Textualis., The decoration is uneven (parts are undecorated) and consists of chapter headings, plain initials and paragraph marks in red. Heightening in red of some capitals. Logical diagrams on ff. 7v, 8r, 8v, 9r, 9v. Titles are missing on ff. 2r, 59r (?), 65v (?), 69r (?)., and Binding: Twentieth century. Marbled paper over cardboard. In the Rosenthal typewritten description the binding was still described as "old boards".
