"Burke stands full face, frowning; his right arm rests along a high pedestal inscribed 'G.R' which supports a bust of George III. In his right hand is a book: 'Burke on the French Revolution'. His left arm hangs by his side, in his left hand are the staff and cap of 'Liberty'. The right half of his dress is whole, the coat gold-laced, the pockets brimming over with coins. The left half is ragged, his empty pocket hangs inside out. The head of the King, in profile to the right, wears an arrogant frown. In the background is a mountain, evidently Parnassus, crowned with a windmill) on one sail of which Fame is precariously poised. A design resembling a high-relief depicts three amoretti attend the toilet of an old hag. The cestus of Venus is a huge pad which one of the attendants ties round the old woman's waist as another attendant holds up a mirror. A third cupid ties the girdle as the arrows fall from the quiver on his back. Behind him, the altar of Venus has tipped over, the fire still burning. A copy of Ovid's Art of love protrudes from the old woman's pocket.

"An ugly decrepit old doctor, in old-fashioned dress and wig, stands with his back to the fire (right) receiving a pair of country-bumpkins, shown in by a servant out of livery, who stands at the door (left), grinning delightedly. The man, a burly fellow, is followed by his plainly-dressed and anxious wife. He says: "Do you see Doctor my Dame and I become [sic] to ax your advice--we both of us eat well, and drink well, and sleep well--yet still we be somehow queerish". The doctor, holding his cane to his nose, answers: "You eat well--you drink well and you sleep well--very good-- You was perfectly right in coming to me, for depend upon it I will give you something that shall do away all these things".
