Binding: Eighteenth century. Gilt, gauffered edges. Brown sheepskin over wooden boards, blind-tooled. Floral woodblock paste paper pastedowns and endleaves. Two fastenings with shell-shaped clasps on the upper board and pins in the edge of the lower. Rebacked., Decorated with several miniatures and borders in water and body color: f. i verso, full-page miniature of tomb in a landscape, with an epigraphic inscription. Arms above inscription: azure, a fess or; an inescutcheon azure, a bend wavy or. On f. 1r, a full frame, outer, inner and upper margins with bucrania, trophies, swags, jewels, arms and armor (including two shields: azure, a fess or; and azure, a bend wavy [Marcello]), in blue, pink, green and gold, framed in gold; lower margin, a parapet with a cornice, enclosing a cartouche with bust, supported by putti and flanked by the letters "A. A.", background filled with spiral flowing vines, pink, blue, green and gold, with brown hair-spray. Cartouches bearing inscriptions on ff. 53v, 82v, 105v. On f. 145v a scroll, written in red and blue letters festooned on a tree in a landscape, the ends supported by two putti. This style of initial accompanied by long penwork extensions in red and blue I designs and with small spirals, circles, flourishes. Binding: Nineteenth century, France. Bound in red goatskin, blind- and gold-tooled, by L. Guetant. Gilt edges., Part I: Illumination in the early style of Bartolomeo di Antonio Varnucci (1410-79). Two large illuminated initials (ff. 1r and 37v), 5-line, gold on blue, green and peach ground with white vine-stem ornament, touched with green and white dots. On f. 1r a partial border incorporating a butterfly, grasshopper, moth, and a flying putto with bow and arrow who appears to be propelled by lozenge-shaped blue clouds. 25 small initials, 2-line, gold on blue, green and peach ground with white vine-stem ornament and white dots. Headings in pale red, the first on f. 1r partially obscured by the decoration. Part II: Display headings and key grammar words in majuscules; no decoration or rubrication., and Script: Part I (ff. 1-64): Written in a well formed round humanistic script by a single scribe, above top line. Part II (ff. 65-114): Scribe 1 wrote arts. 3-4 in a neat round humanistic script, above top line. Scribe 2 added arts. 5-6 in an upright humanistic script bordering on cursive; he also added the Greek words in the margins for arts. 3-4.

Smaller gold initials, 10- to 8-line, for Psalms 26, 38, 51, 52, 80, 97, 101, 109 (ff. 21r, 33v, 43r, 43v, 53v, 68r, 70r, 83r), of similar design, on blue ground with vine-stem patterns of olive green, white, and red, and rectangular frame of red and white. Other psalms introduced by gold initials, 9- to 3-line, outlined in red, infilled and surrounded by blue penwork designs; headings and first letter of each verse in red. Binding: Sixteenth century. Resewn on four tawed, slit straps. Wooden boards chamfered and indented. Edges gilt. The spine is square and now lined with cloth. Covered in dark brown calf, blind-stamped with portraits of saints (one of whom may be Rochus) and fleurons in concentric panels (?); very little of the earlier cover remaining. Clasp-and-catch fastening, the catch on the upper board, the brown leather straps attached through metal plates to the lower. Rebacked with one half of the leather on the boards replaced with old leather from another book. Catches and clasps wanting. Upper sewing supports broken., Initials for text divisions, 11-line (f. 115r: Ps. 101) and 7-line (f. 22r: Ps. 26, f. 40r: Ps. 38, f. 93r: Ps. 80, f. 112v: Ps. 97, f. 133r: Ps. 109), gold, with symmetrical gold tendril ornament, occasionally with dragon-head terminals, against green and mauve panelled grounds covered with dense red cross-hatching set in red and mauve frames. 7- to 2-line initials for other Psalms, red or green with red and/or green flourishes. 1-line initials for verses, alternating red and green.
