Drawings of various complexity, presumably by a boy and for him by an adult, which depict figures and activities of fictitious nations on sheets of a ledger volume, circa 1899-1900. Drawings consist primarily of military figures, inhabitants, indigenous animals, and naval ships of Browlia, Frowlia, and Souv, in addition to a map of the nation of Browlia, a Browlian postage stamp, and flags for the nations Browlia and Ounyhonte. Several of the drawings are on sheets, which are then mounted on leaves of the ledger volume. Other items include two photographic prints that depict the boy, poetry and songs in English and Browlian, a clipping of lines from a Welsh religious publication that may have inspired the Browlian language, and eighteen collages created from magazine halftone images. The creator provides English and Browlian commentary about drawings and items with pencil inscriptions as well as typescript created with a dollar typewriter.

Holograph journal of the author’s naval service from 1845 to 1861, with some verses dated 1867. The volume begins with a summary of his service on the HMS Seaflower, sailing between Jersey and northern France, as well as on the steam ship Sidon. He then describes his service on the HMS Orestes, with which he sails to Mozambique, Zanzibar, and Mauritius. He mentions the weather and routine ship duties, as well as shoots gazelles and hippopotami and chases various vessels, including a number of slave ships. On November 19, 1851, they begin to chase a brig, but gives up when it hoists American colors; in January 1852, they chase and take the Maryanne, a brig from Havana equipped for the slave trade, whose crew the writer describes as all seeming to be "hardened slavers." The manuscript also contains his subsequent appointments on the HMS Excellent and HMS Terrible, and further naval service in Cornwallis, Brunswick, and Cambridge; as well as extensive records of his activities on land, in which he describes primarily routine social events, such as visits to his aunt Sarah and other friends; subscribing to the library; dancing; and flute lessons.

Two manuscript volumes containing logbook entries, journal entries, rental accounts, and descriptions of voyages by Thomas Bowrey. The logbook volume contains "Some particular Remarks at Kedgerry on Bengall River By Thos. Bowrey, Commander the Ship London," which are log entries from July 1 to November 4, 1701. Entries document weather conditions, arrivals and departures of other ships, supplies taken on, and trading. These are followed by seven astronomical and navigational charts, accompanied by an entry, dated December 23, 1695, recounting navigating through "fields of ice" and offering "a description of the plans of the country....during the course of my voyage endeavoring to find the northwest passage." This volume also contains a copy of Bowrey's will, as well as a drawing of the plans for Bowrey's monument and a copy of his contract with its mason; a three-page autobiography covering his life from birth to his retirement from sea in 1702; a chart of the Malabar Coast opposite Fort St. George; and copies of several poems by Shakespeare and others in a different hand.
