In Latin., Script: Copied in Praegothica by three hands., Headings in red. Art. 1 has plain initials (Capitalis, ca. 4 lines) in red, followed by a word in Capitalis/Uncialis. The book opens with an 8-line Romanesque decorated initial in red and black. Art. 2 opens with a black capital followed by two words in Capitalis. Art. 3 is decorated with 1-line initials in black with heightening in red and opens with a 4-line red plain initial., Holes, original repairs and sometimes irregular lower edges., and Binding: Early (probably original) binding in pigskin over heavy unbevelled wooden boards. The covers are blind-tooled with fillets. On the front cover the fillets make a St. Andrews cross, at a later time decorated with trees in Lederschnitt, countless small circular stamps and a few stars (?); the rear cover, with fillets in lozenge pattern, has only the circular stamps and the stars. Spine with three raised bands. On each cover marks of five brass and iron bosses. Two clasps attached to the rear cover. At the top of the front cover an original paper library label with the title (partly rewritten) "Expositio beati Augustini super Psalmo CXXXIIII et deinceps usque ad finem". The binding is strengthened by means of parchment strips placed around the first quire and taken from a 13th-century Latin manuscript.

Part II: buried in gutter., Script: Part I (ff. 60): Written in a neat running script by three scribes: 1) ff. 1r-52r; 2) ff. 52r-54v; 3) f. 60r-v. Part II (ff. 132): Written by a single scribe in an elegant running script. Portions of the marginal notes by original scribe have been lost due to trimming., Part I: Small, crude initials in red, some with simple penwork designs; initials strokes, in red. Part II: Headings, paragraph marks, and initial strokes, in red, throughout., and Binding: 15th-16th centuries. Original sewing on three thick, double, vegetable fiber cords laced and pegged in grooves in wooden boards. The grooves for the endband cores, which are also vegetable fiber, start on the spine edge of the boards. The spine of the bookblock is cut off at an angle at head and tail so the braided endbands extend very little beyond the edges. The spine is square and lined all along with tawed skin which extends to the inside of the boards. Covered in tawed skin, originally pink, with two labels at the head of the upper board; on the first, "Passionale ad aduentum domini usque ad festum mathie sancte [?] sermonum collectio [?]," on the second, "G.27". Five round bosses on each board and two strap and pin fastenings, the pins on the upper one. Lower board detached, bosses and fastenings wanting.

One fastening, the catch on the upper board and the strap wanting. Turk's head knot placemarks on the fore edge. Rectangular label removed from upper edge of front cover; two modern brown labels, stamped in gold, on spine: "Bernardi Varia" and "M. S." Original front pastedown: lower portion of a parchment bifolium (Germany, 15th century) of the Doctrinale of Alexander of Villa Dei with lines 1056-79 visible on verso and 1520-44 on recto. Ca. 5 mm. between lines of text. Binding restored.
