"The Princess of Wales (left), candle in hand, approaches the bed of the Prince, who wakes up, raising his hands in dismay. Lady Jersey (here, an attractive woman, cf. BMSat 8811) is asleep, her head on the Prince's shoulder, her arms round his neck. The distressed Princess wears a coronet and triple ostrich plume, her right arm is flung back. Behind her (left) is an open door through which is seen the baby princess in a cradle ornamented with the Prince's feathers, with which his bed is also decorated. On the twisting draperies of the bed is the star of the Garter. Above the Princess's head hangs a 'Map of the Road back to Brunswick'."--British Museum online catalogue.

"A drunken debauch in the new Union Club, see BMSat 9698. A long table, the cloth removed, one end cut off by the left margin, stretches almost across the design, slanting back slightly from the left, where it is in the foreground, and where Fox, grossly corpulent, sits in an armchair asleep, his feet on the table, a pipe in one hand. Nearly opposite his feet is the chair of state, on the table; on the empty seat is the Prince's cocked hat with triple plume, his motto 'Ich Di[en]' within the crown. The chair is backed by an elaborate architectural canopy with ornate pilasters on which swags of fruit and flowers are carved in relief: (left) grapes and lemons (materials for punch), and (right) roses and shamrocks. Above the seat are figures of Britannia and Erin, kissing, standing on a curved base inscribed 'The Union'. On the back of the chair are two clasped hands, elaborately irradiated. The chair is surrounded by broken wine-bottles; its former occupant, the Prince, lies on his back under the table, one arm flung over Lord Stanhope, who lies unconscious, clasping a bottle. On the Prince's stomach rest two feet in shoes with spiked, upcurved toes. In the foreground, opposite the Prince, Norfolk lies with his head against the seat of his overturned chair, looking very ill. All who are not incapacitated or fighting are toasting the Union (except Lansdowne and Parr, see below). On the table sits Moira, dressed as in BMSat 9386, a glass of wine held high above his head, his right leg thrust forward, while he stretches back to take the hand of Lord Clermont, [This is clear from the resemblance to BMSat 9575, and is supported by the shamrock which he and the other Irishmen wear. It is confirmed by 'London und Paris', vii. 80, where it is said that he and Moira were once bitter enemies. He is identified by Grego as General Manners, see BMSat 9288.] seated next Sheridan on the farther side of the table. Facing Clermont and in back view, Camelford sits erect, wearing a Jean de Bry coat (see BMSat 9425) and small round hat, with cropped hair. [The identification (that of Grego) is confirmed by BMSat 9716, Wright and Evans give Burdett, E. Hawkins 'Mr Manners'.] Beside him (right) two waiters bring in a full tub of Whiskey Punch, which they spill; one treads on the face of the prostrate Nicholls. Near the end of the table (right) sits Derby, his large head and crumpled features grotesquely caricatured. In the foreground on the extreme right Montagu Mathew (as in BMSat 9560) and Skeffington (as in BMSat 9557) advance dancing arm-in-arm, with tipsy grace, the former with a bottle in each hand; one reversed, the other, held above his head, splashes its contents over his partner's uplifted glass. (The pair, according to 'London und Paris', vii, 1801, p. 76, were known as inseparables in fashionable London resorts, cf. BMSat 9755.) ..."--British Museum online catalogue.

"The Duchess of York (left), full face, dances a minuet with a partner whose figure and profile suggest the Prince of Wales. "An elaborate design. The Prince of Würtemberg, grotesquely corpulent, conducts his bride in the procession (right to left) towards the bridal chamber which is led by the King and Queen. George III, plainly dressed and wearing a hat, partly concealed by a pillar, hurries forward; in each hand is a candle-stick holding a guttering candle-end (cf. BMSat 8117). The Queen, covered with jewels and her face hidden by a poke-bonnet, carries a steaming bowl of 'Posset'. On the back of the Prince's coat are slung five ribbons from which dangle the jewels of orders; three garters encircle his leg; a star decorates the bag of his wig. The Princess gazes at him from behind her fan. Round her waist is the ribbon of an order, to which is attached a jewel containing a whole length miniature of her husband, which exaggerates his corpulence. Behind the Princess is a group of princes: the Prince of Wales, in regimentals, is fat and sulky. Prince William of Gloucester stands with splayed-out feet as in BMSat 8716. The Duke of Clarence (caricatured) puts a hand on the right arm of the Prince of Wales. Behind is the more handsome head of the Duke of York. These four heads are clever juxtapositions of variations on the family features. Behind them is the grotesque profile of the Stadholder with closed eyes. The sharp features of Lady Derby tower above the Stadholder. Next him is the Princess of Wales, not caricatured. Two princesses hold up their sister's train, and, behind, a sea of feathered headdresses recedes in perspective under a lighted chandelier. Salisbury (left), the Lord Chamberlain, standing stiffly in profile to the right, much caricatured, with wand and key as in BMSat 8649, holds open the door through which the King is about to pass. Pitt, on the outskirts of the procession, carries a sack inscribed '£80,000' (the amount of the Princess's dowry). On the wall is a large picture, inscribed 'Le Triomphe de l'Amour', of an elephant with a little cupid sitting on his neck blowing a trumpet."--British Museum online catalogue.

"Fox (three quarter length), very obese, stands (left) blowing soap-bubbles from a long pipe, with an expression of calculating complacency; these contain heads of Lord John Townshend and other Foxites. He stands beside a tub of soap-suds (right), inscribed 'Coalition Washing Tub', in which are two heads with closed eyes, one (left) is North, the other is (?) Burke. It stands on a block of masonry inscribed 'Portland Stone' (Portland being the nominal leader of the Coalition). Beside the tub are piles of guineas, some arranged on a paper inscribed 'Devonshire Sope'. The head contained in the bubble which is leaving the bowl of the pipe is exploding; the smoke and flames are inscribed 'Towns End' showing that he is Lord John Townshend. The largest bubble contains a head of the Prince of Wales and is inscribed 'Ich dien'. Between this and Townshend's bubble are six others, containing the heads of Burke, the Duke of Portland, the Duke of Norfolk, Sheridan, Lord Stormont, and Hanger. In the upper left corner is another bubble containing the head of (?) Windham, while a bubble, the lower part only of which is visible, contains a mouth and cheek resembling those of Lord Carlisle in caricature."--British Museum online catalogue.

"An adaptation in reverse of No. 7508 by Sayers. The Prince's head, set in a star which is the head of the comet, is as in No. 7508 except for the addition of a stock between the wings of the coat-collar. In the comet's tail the first profile head is that of Moira, replacing Sheridan who is in the second place, between and in front of Erskine and a partly concealed profile perhaps intended for Ponsonby. Next are the Duke of Norfolk and Lord Derby. Behind them are (?) Tierney and a good-looking military officer. Next come three Grenvilles abreast: Lord Temple between Lord Grenville (on his right) and the spectacled Buckingham. Behind them are Whitbread, holding up a frothing tankard of his 'Entire', and Lansdowne. Behind these are Grey, and (partly obscured) Lord Carlisle. Two heads with faces hidden are on the extreme right."--British Museum online catalogue.

"The white horse of Hanover, laden with two panniers (inscribed 'Sterling') overflowing with guineas, and a tea-tray with a tea-service, is being led off to the right by a scampering demon, wearing a high cocked hat and a coat, his hair in a queue. Under his arm is a sack inscribed 'light gold for charities'. A signpost (right) points 'To Hesse-Cassel'. A sack, labelled 'For Secret Services', with the legs and feet of an animal or demon walks behind the horse, which directs a blast of excrement towards the royal party. In the middle distance (left) the royal family stand disconsolately in a group: Queen Charlotte, much caricatured, holds up a slender purse to the King with a gesture of despairing astonishment. The King, who wears a hunting-cap, though melancholy, appears resigned. The younger children, ragged and in tears, surround their parents. Behind them is Windsor Castle. "The Prince of Wales lies in bed asleep, clasping a pillow with a rapt expression, his closed eyes directed towards a vision of the Princess Caroline who leans towards him floating on clouds, a radiant beauty with outstretched arms. A winged figure with the torch of Hymen (right) holds up her draperies, while a cupid with bow and arrows flying above the Princess's head holds up the heavy curtains of the four-post bed. On the left, also emerging from clouds, the King and Queen, caricatured, crouch over the Prince's bed. The former, a grotesque figure, holds out a large money-bag inscribed '£150000 Pr Annm'. The Queen holds out a book: 'The Art of getting Pretty Children'. Both have expressions of avid delight. On the left and among clouds persons flee in alarm at the approach of the bride: Fox scattering dice from a dice-box, Sheridan as a bearded Jew wearing a broad-brimmed hat. Above them are three women: the most prominent, Mrs. Fitzherbert, with clasped hands; next (?) Lady Jersey, and between and behind them a young woman wearing a cap (cf. BMSat 8611). Above their heads two tiny jockeys gallop off, indicating that the Prince will give up the turf (cf. BMSat 7918, &c). From the foot of the bed (left), which extends diagonally across the design from right to left, rolls a cask of 'Port' on which an infant Bacchus with the head and clumsy figure of Lord Derby is seated astride; he is about to fall, dropping his glass. On the head of the bed is the Prince's coronet with feathers. Beside it (right) is a chamber-pot in which is a bottle of 'Velno' (see BMSat 7592)."--British Museum online catalogue.
