Binding: Blind-tooled white parchment over wooden boards, decorated with fillets in a frame and lozenges pattern. Spine with two raised bands., Foliation s. XVII in ink 2-109, but ff. 37-39 are missing., Script: The original text (artt. 2-5, 8, 9) is probably copied by a single hand (A) writing a small Gothica Textualis/Semitextualis Libraria. The additional texts are copied in 16th century hands: artt. 1 and 6 in Gothica Hybrida Libraria by hand B, who wrote also the majority of the marginal notes and additions; art. 7 by hand C, who used a bold Humanistica Cursiva., and The additional texts are not decorated. The original parts have red headings, red paragraph marks, and red 2- or 3-line plain initials. Art. 2 opens f. 2r with a 7-line littera duplex with extensive penwork and extension in the inner margin in red and blue; art. 8 opens f. 42v with a 3-line flourished initial (Prologue) and a 4-line littera duplex with penwork, as in art. 2 (text). All initials are half inset and have guide letters in the margin.

Larger initials at the beginning of the commentary of new Bible books: 4-line littera duplex "B(eatus)" on f. 4r, Prologue to Ecclesiastes; 3-line "Q(uecumque)" on f. 8v, Prologue to Wisdom; 11-line "S(ummi)" and 6-line "O(mnis)", both red on beige background, on f. 15r, Prologue and text of Ecclesiasticus., and Script: Copied by one hand in early Gothica Textualis. Running headlines in flourished majuscules alternately red and blue; they stop after f. 6.

Binding: ca. 1900. "Bound by Birdsall, Northampton" (blind-stamped inscription on the inside front cover): blond-tooled brown morocco over cardboard, spine with four raised bands. Gold-tooled title on spine in Gothic script: "Jacobus / Alexan/driae / Com-/pilatio / Metrice [sic] / distincta / Capitu-/lorum / MS. / xiv Cent.", MS 217 in the collection of Bernard M. Rosenthal, Berkeley, California. Purchased from him on the Edwin J. Beinecke Fund., Numerous alternately red and blue paragraph marks. Alternately red and blue 2-line flourished initials with penwork in the opposite colours; there are 3-line initials of the same type at the beginning of each book in art. 1 and at the opening of art. 4 (in the latter case a red letter with mauve penwork). A 4-line flourished initial in the same colours with develped penwork at the opening of art. 1, and space for a similar one has been reserved at the opening of art. 3. There is space and there are instructions for the rubricator in view of the adding of headings in art. 2, but these have not been executed. The headings of artt. 1 and 3 have been deleted or rubbed off., Script: Copied in a small, highly abbreviated Gothica Semitextualis Libraria with southern features., and Uneven lower edges. Gilt edges., First pages stained; from about f. 41 the lower outer corners of the leaves are damaged without loss of text., Red underlining of the lemmata. Red captions in the margins. 3-line red plain initial at the beginning of art. 1., and Script: Copied by one hand in very small Gothica Textualis Libraria, marked by d with a very long ascender, the southern form of tironian et, and occasional lengthening of the ascenders on the top line and the descenders on the bottom line.
