Binding: Contemporary Northern French or Flemish binding, which no doubt was made for Part II and rebacked when Part I was added: blind-tooled brown calfskin over bevelled wooden boards; the decoration consists of frames and a lozenge pattern traced in triple fillets, the lozenges filled with three tools: a rose, an acorn motif and a standing figure (?). Remnants of two clasps attached to the rear cover, with engraved brass catches on the front cover. On the 19th-century (?) spine the gold-tooled inscriptions “SERMONES” / and “IOANNES / CHRYSOSTOMUS”., Part I: Underlining and plain initials. Headings underlined or framed or written in red. Framed running headlines on the pages where a new article begins. Part II: Headings, heightening of the majuscules, and red 2-line plain initials in art. 41. The heightening is continued up to f. 137v, but the initials have not been executed from art. 42 onwards. Guide letters for all initials., Script: Part I: Copied by one hand in small Gothica Hybrida Currens. Some additions in a larger and more formal handwriting. Marginal captions. The scribe is Iohannes de Lovanio (John of Louvain), called (de) Dynen, lector in the convent of the Hermits of St. Augustine in Venice. Part II: Copied by the priest Jean Frassent in Gothica Cursiva Formata (Bastarda), which is less carefully executed on the final pages. Calligraphic extensions at the ascenders on the top line., and There is a contemporary foliation in red ink in arabic numerals in the middle of the upper margins of the recto pages, which coincides with the modern foliation up to f. 86; ff. “87”-“88” of the contemporary foliation are missing; the latter continues from “89” (= f. 87) to “113” (= f. 111). There are traces of a still earlier foliation, also in the center of the upper margins, which has been erased and appears to run from “70” (= f.1) to “159” (= f. 90, “156” and “157” being the missing leaves).

Binding: Original brown leather over heavy wooden boards, sewn on four split leather thongs; plaited leather headbands; spine missing. The covers are blind-tooled with frames and lozenges of triple fillets and the following stamps: a lare and a small lozenge-shaped fleur-de-lis; a large and a small rozette; a circular Pascal Lamb; a rectangular stamp with inscription “MARIA”. Remnants of two brass clasps attached to the front board., Most pages slightly damaged by the acid ink. Water stains at the bottom of the outer margins of the leaves in the final quires., Paragraph marks and underlining in red. Red stroking of majuscules. Red plain initials (2-3 lines; 4 lines f. 3r, 7 lines f. 73r); red flourished initials with black penwork (9 lines, f. 72r, 7 lines and of a less careful execution f. 116v). Pasteboard covered with large sections of two parchment leaves from a 15th-century antiphonary (?) from Germany, with Hufnagel notation on 4-line staves traced in black, brown and red. The handwriting is Gothica Textualis Formata. The leaf on the rear cover has the folio number “208”., Script: Copied by one hand in early Gothica Textualis Libraria., and Space for headings not used. A red line-filler on f. 21v. Plain initials of 1-3 lines in red, located partially in the text, partially in the margin, at the beginning of all artt. (except artt. 4, 6 and 12); in art. 1 also at the beginning of the text itself. The words after an initial generally in majuscules; other words often in majuscules are “Maria”, “rex Salomon”, “Amen”.

Binding: Nineteenth century. Reddish leather over cardboard; the covers blind-tooled with a double decorative frame, the inner one chequered, with circular dots on the intersections; small quadrangular decorative bosses in gilt (?) brass in the four corners and in the center of each cover. Spine with four raised bands. Two brass clasps attached to the rear cover, with catches on the front cover., Headings in red. 2-line (on f. 18v 3-line) initials were provided but were not executed; guide letters in the inner and outer margins. In art. 1, square spaces or roundels traced in ink have been provided in the text for illustrations, but the latter have only exceptionally been executed. No illustrations were provided in chapters 28-30 and 36-37. On f. 1v the text of chapters 31-35 is arranged in such a way, that a roundel containing a fully coloured female saint is placed in the center, and in the right-hand column a large space has been provided for a picture of the Cedar, the text being written around its stem. On f. 2r there is a drawing in crayon of a Pelican (very light, ch. 38), on f. 2v an ink drawing of a Raven (ch. 40), on f. 6r a crayon sketch of a Stork (ch. 47). In art. 2, similar spaces and roundels as in art. 1 were provided or traced within the text, all of them empty, except on f. 11v where there are crayon sketches of the Caladrius and the Pelican., Parchment soiled and in bad condition. Holes and irregular and damaged lower edges, the latter often repaired by means of strips of parchment; the final pages badly damaged, with loss of text., and Script: Copied by two hands writing a small Gothica Textualis Libraria, both having a tendency towards lengthening and making loops to the ascenders at the top line; A copied ff. 1r-7v and 17r-19v and is marked by conspicuous vertical decorative strokes at the top of r and long strokes on i; B copied ff. 8r-16v. Running headlines in red in artt. 3-5 in Gothica Textualis Libraria. In the margins of artt. 1 and 3-5 a contemporary hand has written numerous corrections and variant readings and has rewritten numerous words for which hand A apparently had used unusual or unclear abbreviations.
Binding: ca. 1500, Spain. Wound sewing on four tawed skin, slit straps or double cords laced into the wooden boards. Plain wound natural color endbands, caught up on the spine, are sewn on cores laced into the boards and pegged. They are tied down around a strip of tawed skin. There is a coarse cloth spine lining. Back pastedown is part of a bifolium from a liturgical manuscript with Aquitanian musical notation. Covered with reddish-brown sheepskin, blind-tooled with a rope interlace tool, fleurs de lis and annular dots. Spine: supports outlined with double fillets; panels diapered with double fillets with annular dots at the intersections. There are traces of two fastenings, the catches on the lower board, and traces of five round bosses on each board. Damage from a chain attachment (?) near the tail of the upper board; remains of a paper or vellum label near the head., Plain red intials for each sermon; headings, foliation and paragraph marks in red. First words of each sermon in large gothic bookhand for display script., Script: Written in gothic cursive script, above top line., and Watermarks: similar in design to Briquet Ciseaux 3694-3702, and unidentified cross bow in a circle.

Binding: Eighteenth century, France. Greenish brown goatskin gold-tooled. Gold-tooled panels and dark red gold-tooled label (damaged) on spine. Red edges., Folios 1-50 have flourished initials, 3- to 2-line, alternating blue with red penwork designs and red with purple; two initials of better quality, divided red and blue, with red and purple flourishes (ff. 42r, 43v); many initials have harping designs. For remainder of manuscript uninspired red initials, either plain or with harping designs in brown ink. Rubrics, underlining and initial strokes, in red, throughout. Running headlines, in red, on ff. 1r-83r. Notes to rubricator in margins.
